Kasey & Josh | The Adams International School Goochland Wedding

We can summarize this 4th of July wedding with one word: FAMILY! Allie and I have known Kasey and Josh for several years and Allie and Kasey go even farther back. Kasey happens to be the the younger sister of Kristen, one of Allie’s best friends and a bridesmaid in our wedding. Last year we even got the chance to put down our cameras and join Kasey and Josh as part of Kristen and her husband Diego’s bridal party. SOO much fun! Kasey is the second of three Nichols’ girls and much to their parents amusement- they are ALL getting married within a two year time span!
Kasey and Josh are the true definition of a power couple. They spent months planning decorations, scouring antique stores for dinnerware, and eventually turned the barn at The Adams School into a rustic and romantic oasis. We were stunned by the transformation and even more impressed by how this large bridal party and crew of family members pitched in to help Kasey and Josh bring their dream to fruition.
Kasey and the bridesmaids enjoyed a beautiful bridal sweet with classic wooden floors and tons of natural light. The guys dealt with a little less light in the barn, but they did get to enjoy commercial grade construction site air conditioners (graciously supplied by the bride’s father). They even moved the cornhole boards into the barn so they could keep cool until the bus came to pick them up for the ceremony.
The ceremony took place at Gum Springs UMC and once again we got to enjoy a service led by Rusty Lee. Rusty was the youth pastor for the Nichols’ family while they were growing up so we are becoming fast friends as this is the second time we’ve been on a wedding team with him. The ceremony was full of hilarious stories and afterwards we got the chance to shoot the infamous Murphy family. They travel in large packs and traditionally get one massive group shot to commemorate each event. It was so much fun capturing such a great group of fun-loving family members!
For the second week in a row the ominous clouds held in their rain until everyone was enjoying the ceremony under the shelter of the church roof. Kasey and Josh were thankful that the rain chose such a convenient time, but man did it heat up when the sun peeked through. After the bridal party wiped their brows and donned their customized Nichols/Murphy wedding sunglasses, they kicked the party into gear with a first dance. Their guests enjoyed BBQ served on plates hand selected by the bride and groom. Each plate was unique! While their guests finished eating we stole them away for some beautiful sunset pics in the field behind the barn.
We knew that the Nichols’ side loved to dance from prior experience, but the Murphy family and other guests did not disappoint. The floor was packed all night and a stray dog even wandered in and got in on the action! When it was time to cut the cake their guests had a wide selection of flavor options. There was plenty of sheet cake to go around and Kasey and Josh “take the cake” for best gluten-free cupcakes : Strawberry- Allie’s favorite! (sorry, but not sorry, for the pun...)
At the end of the night all the guests managed to sneak a peek at a local fireworks show before lighting the sparklers and putting on a show of their own. Kasey and Josh were whisked away in the back of a pickup truck with American flags flying.
Kasey and Josh are so much fun and they’ve surrounded themselves with a large group of supportive family members and friends. No one was left out on the dance floor and the laughter still continued long after the bride and groom had left. What a great way to celebrate our country and an amazing couple!
